Every year the path to Watts Hut is blocked in mid-summer by the snow melt from Ellis Fjord creating the notorious Ellis Rapids.
In order to be able to safely access Watts Hut, we assemble a suspension bridge prior to the snow melting out and leave it in place until the temperature drops and the melt refreezes. Then we disassemble the bridge for the winter months to reduce the chance of the bridge being damaged and it having an effect on the environment.
