A plucky group of expeditioners test their endurance

2021 - The summer of skiing at Casey

In terms of recreational pursuits, this summer has been all about skiing at Casey.

Between seemingly endless local ski loop sessions, from a 2.7km loop right outside the Red Shed or down the A-line, to multiple cross-country jaunts to old Wilkes Station, enthusiasm levels have been high. With summer at its zenith, five resilient Casey expeditioners signed off the season in style by completing an epic cross-country ski mission in homage to the iconic international Canadian Ski Marathon.

Across two days on 13-14 February 2021, the five-person team deftly skied their way across the Mitchell, Bailey, and Clark peninsulas, enjoying a fantastic array of Antarctic vistas interspersed with the slow grind of enduring an ultra-distance ski marathon.

An epic effort ably facilitated by a humble Hagglunds support team – well done one and all!
