This week at Mawson we reflect on last week and compare to this week

Home of the Blizzard - well one of them

With the perfect weather of last week, we had almost forgotten what Mawson can turn up weather-wise.

On Sunday the wind picked up and by Monday was gusting over 98 knots. The air thick with snow, visibility nil and the station reduced to the building you’re working in.

Travel conditions on RED mean the radio is constantly buzzing VLV and everyone is looking for a buddy to head out with to attend to essential tasking.

To make getting there possible, blizz lines are checked and up, spikes are reinstated on boots and head torches located.

The winds are starting to decrease now, slowly into the weekend. We are back to AMBER and I’m wondering how long it will take me to reach the Red Shed, and did we really get a week of no wind for the airdrop (see last week's station news) and the aftermath?
