Extreme weather poetry

Black Travel Conditions

A poem by Adam S., Station Electrician, following an extreme weather event on station over the last week. Black and Red refer to the travel conditions on station during weather events that result in restricted movement on station and a focus on safety for expeditioners.

The calm before the storm, promise of winds hard and fast

I hurry to where my family is safe and warm

We watch and wait for what had not been forecast

But then it comes and all is black

All I want, is my freedom back

The wind that blows and blows

The building that shakes to and fro

What was excitement now has past

Replaced by the constant blast

We wake to find the black is red

So off we go out the shed

In two by twos for safety’s sake

There’s work to do, a station to remake
