Fun with flags
So far it has been an amazing trip, especially via Heard Island, which was amazing.
At Casey I did not apply for any community roles on station other than chief pizza maker, so I thought I better have a crack at something this year.
Some roles come with remuneration, but I focused on unpaid roles which include photographer, yearbook editor, hydroponics, kitchen slushy, electoral officer, librarian, amenities officer, lay surgical assistant, sea ice monitor, hobby hut coordinator, gym manager & flag officer to name a few.
After all the votes were counted I was the official Flag Officer (Only I nominated😂)
So on 4th of November 2025 we did the official hand over with 78th crew.
Every sunrise and sunset, flags are raised and lowered. It's a pleasure to be a part of official duties such as Remembrance and Anzac Days, also commemorating the passing of fellow expeditioners.
Every month I will incorporate an Australian state flag with a bit of information just to change it up.
Also had Canadian, New Zealand, Chinese, American and Indian flags on display at certain times of the year when these nations visited our station.
Over winter, no sun,so have had a little break - will recommence in August.
Not a bad job - you have the best view everyday and I'm lucky enough to be chief pizza maker again.
