A Night at the Theatre
After the hustle and bustle of Midwinter celebrations and the annual fuel transfer, Casey has settled back into something that almost resembles a normal week. Of course, there’s never really a normal week down here.
With a bit of downtime on our hands, we decided to put the station’s appetites to the test with a hot dog eating competition. For me, that meant making hundreds of hot dog buns so everyone could get involved. A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise the event and get everything ready. Congratulations also go to Harrison, who claimed the trophy after a seriously impressive effort.
The entertainment didn’t stop there. The team from Husky Hollows transformed the evening with a “Night at the Theatre”, complete with champagne, canapés and a private screening of The Phantom of the Opera. What could have been just another movie night became a proper event, and a big thank you goes to everyone at Husky Hollows for the incredible effort they put into hosting such a memorable evening.
Antarctica has a funny way of resetting your definition of excitement. Back home, a loaf of fresh bread is just bread. Down here, it’s an event. A sunny day feels like a holiday, a parcel is as exciting as Christmas morning, and even watching a movie becomes an occasion worth dressing up for. It’s these moments—along with a good meal shared with the crew—that remind you it’s the people, not just the place, that make this experience unforgettable.
