October 2023 Macquarie Island ~ in pictures

October has seen:

  • The culmination of winter emergency response training, with an all-day search and rescue training exercise
  • A massive return of wildlife to Macquarie Island and an annual census of elephant seal numbers (and some very cute newborn seals!)
  • The culmination of winter emergency response training, with three major fire training exercises
  • The arrival of spring and hopefully much improved weather (yet intermittent 'winter' snow dumps remain a practical reality anytime at Macquarie Island!)
