The Macquarie Island summer season continues to build momentum with the arrival of the first tourist ship and six new summer expeditioners.
The Heritage Expeditions led Spirit of Enderby arrived at Macca early on Sunday morning (19 November) with nearly 50 tourists aboard. Over Sunday and Monday, the tourists were ably guided around Sandy Bay and Macquarie Island station by Macquarie Island rangers and volunteer tourist guides from the station community.
This visit marks the first of eight tourist ships set to arrive over the next two months.
The arrival of Spirit of Enderby also saw the arrival of six new summer expeditioners, who will focus primarily on important science project work over the next two months.
Whilst their arrival proved an exciting time for the station community, it was also with some sadness that we farewelled six outgoing expeditioners.
The busy summer season has well and truly commenced!
