The summer season has commenced at Casey!

The first newbies have arrived

This week marked the start of the summer season at Casey station!

With relatively calm skies and little wind, Thursday afternoon saw the first air transport of the season safely arrive at Wilkins ice runway. Shortly after, 28 new bright-eyed Antarctic expeditioners emerged, ready to get to work for the summer.

This week's season commencement is a credit to the absolutely stellar efforts of the Wilkins winter aviation team, who successfully completed the arduous and relentless ice runway preparation over the last four months.

Thanks also to all our key colleagues in Aviation, Operations, Polar Medicine, Supply Services and Bureau of Meteorology for their support in facilitating a successful start to the season.

Summer season has officially kicked off – onwards and upwards!
