Plant operator Adam Goddard gives a rundown on work and life at Davis research station.

Adam’s time at Davis Station

My name is Adam and I am working at Davis station as the winter plant operator for the 24/25 season.

I arrived at Davis in October aboard the RSV Nuyina and was straight into work driving the Hydrema for the over-ice resupply, carting supplies and water from the ship to station, and return to Australia (RTA) cargo from the station to the ship.

Once the resupply was completed and the ship departed, I settled into station life and my new role operating all of the various machines on station.

Over the summer I was fortunate enough to be involved across a range of work fronts from assisting with aviation, preparing the sea ice landing area and travelling to the Woop Woop Skiway for the pack down for winter and fuel retrieval, working with the maintenance team clearing snow, craning in the pontoons and pump for the Reverse Osmosis plant, working with the Station Supply Officer to prepare cargo for the voyages back to Australia and working with the projects team on the new Reverse Osmosis construction.

I have also managed to get out on a number of hikes into the Vestfold Hills to see the incredible scenery in the local area.

This is so far one of the best experiences of my life with some of the best people I know. Please enjoy some photos of my time so far.

All the best,

Adam Goddard - Plant Operator
