Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to embark on a hike to get my mind off the new communications installations on the station and the work that goes along with it.
Over three days, the hike to Sørsdal Glacier and Tarbuck Hill offers an unforgettable adventure. On the first day, we set out from Davis station, trekking across the rocky terrain of Vestfold Hills and the beautiful sea ice of Ellis Fjord to reach Watts Hut, where we spent the night. The second day took us to the awe-inspiring Sørsdal Glacier, a striking expanse of ice and snow that made me feel tiny standing in front of it. On the final day, we made the journey back to Davis Station, but not before tackling the climb up Tarbuck Hill. The ascent rewards you with panoramic views of the station operational area and the distant and endless plateau, providing us with a fitting end to a challenging and exhilarating hike through the Antarctic wilderness.
I am still struggling to process this amazing, once in a lifetime experience.
