A long long time ago (well actually about 10 months ago) the Davis Ducks began their journey into the great unknown when they came into the hands of an expeditioner heading south to Davis Station Antarctica. Now this expeditioner had grand plans for these little ducks but it would be some time before the plans would be revealed. As an expeditioner you are told to get all your ducks in a row before you head south - well I figured why no take them with? So with that thought the ducks began their journey. Starting in Hobart where they were carefully packaged into what is known to expeditioners as UPE, from the get-go these little ducks were kept in the dark, for months just waiting for their grand adventure…… what on earth…. where on earth were they going and why on earth was it soooo cold????
After a long journey from Hobart to Davis Station packed in with the cargo on the Nuyina and then after many more months in the dark, the Davis Ducks were just a jiggly walk away. The grand adventure was finally about to begin, when a few sneaky expeditioners took the ducks to their birth place - Rubber Duck Lake! It was there where their adventures truly began. Finally out of the dark and into the cold landing on a lake - that’s right ON a lake not in it - the lake was frozen solid! The ducks were a bit confused after being kept in the dark for so long but when they realised that they were at Rubber Duck lake it all made sense. Let the duck hunt and adventures begin!
After making their way from Rubber Duck lake to Davis Station they were keen and eager to meet their new adventure buddies. They were a little shy at first but decided to make their grand entrance on the Easter long weekend when they knew that their new adventure buddies would be searching for something special because you don’t see the Easter Bunny down here now, do you?
DAVIS NEWS HEADLINES: Ducks have escaped and are on the loose at Davis Station they need to be found and cared for and taken on many adventures - where will they end up? Nobody knows!
They made their great escape into SMQ and LQ where the Davis Duck hunt began! It didn’t take long before some ducks were found and moved to new locations. It was fun moving about the station meeting new people and hiding in plain sight. After a few adventures around station the Ducks started making their way further afield and out to some huts venturing further and further each time.
On station the adventures started in SMQ and LQ but it wasn’t long before Hydro and the Workshop were next on the adventure list. From there the adventures grew and grew from walks out to Law cairn, to treks to Brookes hut and further to the top of Lied Bluff. What about a quad ride (for training and operational purposes of course). And now that the Haggs are allowed to travel on the sea ice there’s no telling where their adventures might take them - first stop Ace Apple and then on to Bandits hut! But I’m sure their adventures and stories won’t end there. They are sure to go on many more adventures in the Vestfold areas in the coming months but after that we will just have to wait and see where their adventure buddies take them. Only time will tell.
