This week we had our first physical interaction with the outside world since March, with the arrival of a Kenn Borek Air twin otter from South Pole Station.
Antarctic logistics do tend to be a rather globalised affair. A Canadian aircraft flies to Antarctica via Punta Arenas in Chile, stopping for a rest at the British Rothera station, waiting out bad weather at the American South Pole Station before reaching little old Davis research station, where it is met by a Kiwi carpenter/aviation ground support officer, who just received his Australian citizenship a couple of days ago.
Jared McGhie, our carpenter, jiu jitsu master, photography guru and lifelong Kiwi, took the pledge in a very special citizenship ceremony, officiated by Brett Barlee the station leader, in front of his fellow expeditioners. We celebrated with lamingtons, pies and some good old Aussie banter.
All in all, another good week.
