Antarctic 'pub crawl”: Not your typical shenanigans
It may seem like it’s just all fun and games down here. You would be correct, it is …
The evening started around 1pm down in the mechanical workshop, where the mechanics cooked up a classic BBQ and even made a rather sturdy powerhouse Pinata filled with chocolate and explosive beers (final blow delivered by Josh with a crowbar).
SMS Ron had handcrafted penguin bowling pins for a good challenge, then outside we endured the blowing snow in our eyes for a group photo.
After we had our fill and drink of 'special juice' we marched onwards battling through the mild blizzard to the EVS (Emergency Vehicle Shelter) where Charlotte and Andy greet us with an expresso martini. While upstairs, live music was already underway with Sean (guitarist, singer, all round musician) accompanied by Larko (drummer, “played in his own timing”) while Goody spontaneously joined in on the bongos.
Serenaded by the music and thirst quenched, we mustered the courage to continue the 'pub crawl' through the dark and cold towards the Tankhouse. The trades team had hot pizza rolling straight out of the oven along with a variety of activities including mini golf, a race car track, and the crowd favourite … blindfolded water vessel filling (very competitive)
With full bellies (first layer of defence against the Antarctic cold) we ventured onwards to the next venue to watch the weather balloon release although with a twist – each person had to protect a party balloon while attempting to eliminate everyone else's. The last surviving balloon victor earned the honour of releasing the weather balloon.
Sean emerged victorious and releases the balloon before we move on to our final destination – The Red Shed bar.
Inside the bar (Splinters) were strong French ski resort vibes, where our very own Frenchman Arno brought a level of sophistication to the evening by serving 'champagne'.
Then to end the night … Karaoke
