Mawson welcomes new team members and gets ready for the arrival of RSV Nuyina.

A full house

This week at Mawson, we have welcomed four new members of the team - Jadon, Nick, Tom, and Michael - finally making it to station after being delayed at Casey and Davis stations for five weeks, through bad weather and plane damage. Also, we welcomed the return of Madi and Jess after their five weeks on Bechervaise Island conducting studies on the penguin colony.

Everyone is getting ready to pack up and head home, and for the arrival of the Nuyina and everything involved with resupply, handover and new expeditioners moving in. Projects are being completed, such as the bridge reinforcement and wind turbine annual maintenance.

The sea ice has cleared from the Horseshoe Harbour and surrounds, allowing the IRBs to get out on the water. Penguins are making their presence felt, being spotted regularly around station. Seals and orcas can’t be far away.
