Auster
Auster colony, near Mawson, is home to thousands of breeding emperor penguins at this time of year and the chicks are getting braver by the day!
Expeditioners sometimes get to visit Auster but they need high-quality camera equipment to capture images like these, as they have to stay at least 50 metres away from the breeding birds.
Emperor penguins are the only penguin species that breeds in Antarctica in winter.
