Job title: Bureau of Met Tech
Describe your role in two sentences:
I repair and maintain the weather instrumentation as well as look after third party equipment. I also take weather observations and complete weather related documentation.
What did you do before your joined the AAD?
I serviced and maintained medical instrumentation found in hospitals and research labs including molecular diagnostics, clinical pathology and blood banking.
What is your favourite part of your job here at Macca?
I love walking to work and chatting to the seals and penguins.
If you were not a BOM Tech, what would be your dream job?
I would love to work on classic cars and do them up in a fully equipped workshop.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to spend as much time as possible with my wife Sarah who is an absolute diamond.
I have an old Land Rover I am restoring and a couple of other cars to maintain.
What song sums up your Macca experience so far?
I'm not really into music so couldn’t name a song but three words would be cloudy, windy and condimenty.
What actor would play you in a film version of our 78th ANARE season here at Macca?
Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean.
What is your favourite spot here at Macca and why?
Probably learning French in my office or the comfy chair in the Met Office.
Favourite piece of Australian Antarctic Division kit?
Probably the wellies, I use them the most and they have proven to be a strong, reliable companion.
What is your favourite book / movie (or both) and why?
Movie – Jason and the Argonauts – I love the stop-start motion effects.
Book – French for Dummies – It has helped me with my French lessons.
What is your typical 'Slushy FM' genre? Do you have a particular favourite?
I'm not a music guy so I just let the chef put on whatever they want.
Describe your Macca experience with: a sight, a smell, a sound, a feeling and a taste.
Sight – Seals being born and penguin chicks
Smell – rur seals
Sound – elephant seal sneezes
Feeling – bamboo bedding (it's amazing)
Taste – Sam’s schnitzels, Con/Ryan’s steak, Alana’s bread, Karen’s muffins, Dave’s crumpets.
Do you have a favourite quote that you’d like to leave us with?
