Wharf Road: a tale of ice and iron
For generations tales of Atlantis, the Bermuda Triangle, El Dorado and Shangri-La have been passed down, but there’s one tale that’s been lost to time. The tale of a place filled with riches beyond measure - Wharf Road.
It’s said that every year a handful of chosen plant operators take the pilgrimage to find Wharf Road and the bountiful treasures The Wharf has to offer.
Day by day the plant operators search for Wharf Road through meters of snow and ice. As each hour passes, the search tests the plant operators, both physically and mentally, staring at the white snow, hoping one day the brown rock of Wharf Road reveals itself after each scoop of the Cat 36T or 30T excavator.
One story passed from operator to operator talks about the 78th ANARE operators having completed Wharf Road not once, but twice in their season.
The winter operators Ty, Gus, Jol and Dan, have been said to be the modern reincarnation of Zeus, Hercules, Archilles and Thor, with their unwavering determination and strength to achieve the reopening of Wharf Road.
Once this testament of human resolve and determination has been completed and Wharf Road is again exposed for everyone, the mythical RSV Nuyina will show itself from the depths of the Southern Ocean and reveal its treasures of resupply to the plant operators and inhabitants of Casey station once again.
