If you remember last week’s story, you’ll recall that Casey Station is undergoing a transition from winter to summer – including the anticipated return of the ‘locals’.
We have not been let down as a group of four Weddell 'seal mums’ have since established themselves at the Swain Group (near Jack’s Donga) to give birth to little furry balls of mischief. These pups are the quintessence of cuteness - and while covered in a soft, fluffy layer of hair (apparently called lanugo) they are also notably feisty at such a young age. We’ve already observed a few mums having to lay down the law early, as 'pup playing' gets a little out of hand.
There’s no use adding more words to a story like this. People are just after the photos! The smile from one of our travel party says it all.
