From not seeing a single aurora all season to randomly walking out of the Red Shed accommodation for work and seeing the entire sky dancing green, it’s hard to put into words just how beautiful it was. The first thing you do is hurry to take heaps of photos to share with your friends and family back home. It’s amazing how just seeing an aurora in the middle of winter – especially since we haven’t had many this year – really lifted everyone’s spirits. It became the talk of the day. It reminded the team why we came down here: to witness incredible sights like that. Sometimes, as you walk around the station, you have those pinch-yourself moments where you suddenly realize the incredible fact that you’re in Antarctica.
A little slice of me
I live in Perth with my beautiful partner, two dogs, and a cat. In my free time, you’ll find me working on renovations or catching up with mates while watching the footy (AFL). Before coming to Casey, I was an operator maintainer at a large power station in the Pilbara. Then I got the itch to do something crazy like work in Antarctica for the winter! One of the great things that has come about since starting at Casey is learning how to box. Deano, our coach and ex-professional boxer, runs a 6 am class every morning. A small group of us have really found a passion for boxing and have decided it’s something we’ll definitely continue back home. Guard up!
