An injured Australian expeditioner remains in a serious but stable condition in Antarctica after an accident near Davis station.

A medical team on station, working around the clock in consultation with medical officers at the Australian Antarctic Division, continues to monitor the man’s condition.

The man was on a field trip to Trajer Ridge, around 25km from Davis when he came off a quad bike on Tuesday evening, Australian Eastern Summer Time.

He sustained serious injuries including multiple fractures and received medical treatment at the scene before being transported back to the station by Hägglunds overland vehicle.

The Australian Antarctic Division is investigating options for his evacuation to specialist medical care.

The man was due to return to Australia in mid-November after a 12-month stint in Antarctica.
