An Australian expeditioner has been injured at Davis station in Antarctica.

The man came off a quad bike — about six o'clock yesterday evening Australian Eastern Summer Time — while on a field trip on Trajer Ridge, around 25km from Davis.

He received medical treatment at the scene and was transported back to the station by Hägglunds overland vehicle.

His injuries are serious and include multiple fractures.

The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is investigating options for his evacuation to specialist medical care.

AAD medical officers and operations personnel are looking at associated logistics requirements.
