The Second Symposium on Kerguelen Plateau Marine Ecosystems and Fisheries, was 13–15 November 2017, Hobart, Tasmania. The meeting brought together more than 70 researchers studying in the Australian and French regions of the Kerguelen Plateau.
Presentations focused on advances in marine ecosystem knowledge, marine geomorphology and oceanography, developments in marine policy, fisheries resource assessment and management, biology, biodiversity and conservation in the region. The Symposium closed with a synthesis session where a common theme was realised; the importance of the Kerguelen Plateau as a natural laboratory in the face of a changing climate. The proceedings of the second symposium are available here.
The 3rd Kerguelen Plateau Symposium on Marine Ecosystems and Fisheries was held from the 31 March – 2 April 2025 in Concarneau (France) and organised by the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle (MNHN) and the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) with the administrative support of the Comité National Français des Recherches Arctiques et Antarctiques (CNFRAA).
The objective of the third Symposium were to update the status of scientific knowledge on the Kerguelen Plateau and to discuss future science programs in support of ecosystem-based fisheries management and conservation in the region.
The themes of the 3rd Kerguelen Plateau Symposium were:
1. Marine geomorphology, oceanography, biogeochemistry and microbiology;
2. Climate changes and their impacts on marine ecosystems;
3. Advances in marine ecosystem knowledge/marine food-web;
4. Developments in fisheries resource assessment, by-catch mitigation and resource management;
5. Marine policy and spatial planning.
