Davis Station Leader Narelle Campbell is a finalist for the New South Wales Australian of the Year Award.

Ms Campbell’s current position at Davis is her fourth time serving as a station leader for the Australian Antarctic Division, having previously worked at Mawson in 2008, Casey in 2010 and Macquarie Island in 2012.

Ms Campbell has been recognised for her station leader work, fostering a safe and productive team environment that contributes to Australian conservation and research efforts on the frozen continent.

Ms Campbell has 23 years’ experience in print media, covering logistics, sales and marketing in senior management roles, and degrees in social science and counselling.

She has also worked for a not-for-profit providing services to the homeless, and spent a number of years volunteering as a support person to prison inmates, and also for Missionbeat in Sydney, providing support to homeless people.

Between her station leader roles, Ms Campbell speaks to over 60 community groups and schools per year about Antarctica.

A keen traveller, Ms Campbell has walked the Kokoda Track and completed high altitude climbs in Nepal, India, Africa and Chile.

Ms Campbell is one of four finalists from her category in New South Wales, and 137 in all categories from across the country.

The Australian of the Year Award recipients for New South Wales will be announced later in the year, with award recipients from all States and Territories then becoming finalists for the National Awards, which will be presented on 25 January 2015.
