Many people require the use of station vehicles for science support, building and maintenance programs, and operational support tasks.
The allocation of vehicles is the overall management responsibility of the station leader, and can delegate this responsibility to the station mechanical supervisor. This person is also responsible for the day-to-day proper care and issue of vehicles and mobile plant.
Normal safety rules apply if you are operating any vehicles or equipment. If you are driving a quad or skidoo anywhere, on or off station, you must wear an approved motor cycle safety helmet. The station speed limits are 20 km/h at Mawson, and 30 km/h at Casey, Davis and Macquarie Island. In the field, use your discretion and drive safely at moderate speeds.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.
