Dr Peter Gormly, a Senior Medical Officer with the Antarctic Division, has provided a first class medical service to two winter expeditions and 11 voyages to the Antarctic. He has made a valuable contribution to Australia’s Antarctic program through the training of expeditioners in First Aid, safety and survival, and through his contribution to station and ship board morale. His work is recognised, both in Australia and overseas, as outstanding and is considered to have reduced the incidence of sickness and death amongst expedition staff.

Dr Gormly has undertaken substantial medical research in a number of fields, has developed the Antarctic Division’s First Aid Manual and made important contributions to the Division’s Field Manual.
