The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is seeking comments on the review of the Mawson’s Huts Historic Site Management Plan 2013–2018.

Constructed during the Australasian Antarctic Expedition 1911–1914 by Sir Douglas Mawson and his team, Mawson’s Huts Historic Site is a place of great historical and social significance, and is listed on both the National and Commonwealth Heritage lists.

In accordance with sections 324W and 341X of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, the Department is conducting a review of the Mawson’s Huts Historic Site Management Plan 2013–2018 and invites comments on the following:

  1. whether the plan is consistent with the National Heritage management principles
  2. the effectiveness of the plan in protecting and conserving the National Heritage values of the place
  3. whether the plan is consistent with the Commonwealth Heritage management principles
  4. the effectiveness of the plan in protecting and conserving the Commonwealth Heritage values of the place.

The Mawson’s Huts Historic Site Management Plan 2013–2018 can be viewed online and comments submitted via the Department’s consultation hub at: consult.dcceew.gov.au.

The closing date for public comment is 5:00 pm AEDT, on 23 June 2024.
