Antarctic resupply ship MPV Everest has safely berthed in Fremantle at 1730 (WA time) tonight, following a fire in its port-side engine room on Monday 5 April, about 1700 nautical miles to the south.

With 109 expeditioners and crew on board, the ship has now completed a 2-month resupply voyage to Davis and Mawson research stations in east Antarctica.

This marks the end of a successful and challenging Antarctic season for 2020-21, to keep Australian research stations operating and free of coronavirus for another year.

Given that it will take some hours for arrival processing and disembarkation, interviews will not be available tonight.

A media conference with AAD leaders and returning expeditioners will be held at Fremantle wharf at 1000 (WA time) on Wednesday morning, 14 April.
