Professor Quilty led the Australian Antarctic Division’s science program for more than 18 years from 1980 to 1999.
He first visited Antarctica in 1965, going on to participate in 14 trips south, including 3 summers in the Vestfold Hills. He participated in 3 marine science voyages.
Professor Quilty played a leading role in the international Antarctic science community and published over 200 scientific research papers.
Sadly, Professor Quilty passed away in 2018.
