Martin Tucker was awarded the Antarctic Medal for service to the Australian Antarctic Program in his capacity as a Southern Ocean Fisheries observer, particularly within the Heard and McDonald Island fishery.

Martin spent some 21 years as a Southern Oceans Fisheries observer. He undertook 32 voyages to the Southern Ocean. He spent a large portion of his time observing the Heard Island and McDonald Island Fishery within the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) region. Martin always went above and beyond the expectations of his duties.
