Here we present preliminary results on krill distribution from data collected from the Norwegian fishing vessel (F/V) Antarctic Endurance during her commercial operation for Antarctic krill in subareas 48.1 and 48.2 during different timings of the year in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Evaluating the effects of climate change on Southern Ocean marine living resources is a priority topic for CCAMLR and was identified by the 2022 Scientific Committee Symposium as a key area of research. Acknowledging the need to better coordinate…
Since 2019 there has been considerable discussion by the Scientific Committee and its Working Groups regarding data collection issues in the krill fishery. This document outlines issues that have been identified for consideration by the Scientific Committee and its working groups…
The current krill management approach endorsed by CCAMLR will require systematic data collection on a variety of spatial and temporal scales for each of the three pillars of the plan: the biomass assessment, the Grym model, and the risk assessment layer.
An Advisory Committee Work Programme for the 2023 - 2025 triennium will be submitted to MoP7 in 2022. This is a draft of that work programme seeking comments and eventual endorsement from the Advisory Committee.
Following a recommendation from the Advisory Committee, a Work Programme for the 2019 - 2021 triennium was adopted by the Sixth Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MoP6, Resolution 6.4).
This report has been compiled pursuant to Article X (j) and in fulfilment of Articles VII (1)(c) and IX (6)(d) of the Agreement. The information contained within Section 1 of this report has been obtained by the Secretariat from Parties pursuant to Article VII (1) (c) and Article VIII (10).
This Report documents discussions and recommendations of the Tenth Meeting of the Seabird Bycatch Working Group (SBWG10), held online, from 17 - 19 August (AEST/UTC+10).
A summary of progress by the Taxonomy Working Group is provided.
This report outlines progress during the intersessional period against the Work Programme of the Population and Conservation Status Working Group (hereafter PaCSWG or WG), approved by the Sixth Session of the Meeting of the Parties (MoP6) in 2018 and updated at the 11th ACAP Advisory Committee (AC)…
At the Third Meeting of the Advisory Committee (AC3), 129 species of Procellariformes were assessed using a number of categories in order to provide Parties with an approximate priority list of species that might be considered for nomination to Annex 1 of ACAP (AC3 Doc 18).
The Advisory Committee Work Programme for the 2023 - 2025 triennium was drafted by the Advisory Committee and its Working Groups during its Twelfth Meeting (AC12), held as a virtual meeting, between 31 August and 2 September 2021.
This report has been prepared under Article IX(6)(d) of the Agreement and includes a collation of information provided under Article X(j) by Parties through the Secretariat under Article VII(1)(c) and Article VIII(10).
This report to the Seventh Meeting of the Parties has been prepared by the Advisory Committee Chair and Vice-chair with the assistance of the Agreement's Secretariat under Article IX 6 (e).
This report to the Seventh Meeting of the Parties has been drafted as a document in progress for the Advisory Committee by the Chair and Vice-chair with the assistance of the Agreement's Secretariat.
This paper presents the results of a review of progress in the implementation of the recommendations identified in the Report of the Joint CEP/SC-CAMLR Workshop on Climate Change and Monitoring (2016). This review was undertaken during the 2021-22 intersessional period by Argentina, Australia…
Minimising seabird interactions with longline operations is a key objective of the management of fisheries in CCAMLR (see e.g. Conservation Measure CM 25-02 and 41-08). Longline fishing in the fishery for Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) in Statistical Division 58.5.
Fisheries are human activities that alter resource availability for species in marine ecosystems. While fisheries remove fish biomass, they may also provide new feeding opportunities to various marine predators. These species, depredating on catches directly on the fishing gear…
Exploratory fishing for toothfish (Dissostichus mawsoni) in East Antarctica (Divisions 58.4.1 and 58.4.2) began in 2003. Robust stock assessments and catch limits according to CCAMLR decision rules remain to be determined for these Divisions.
Spanish and Australian scientists are working on the age and growth estimates of Antarctic toothfish within divisions 58.4.1 and 58.4.2 from 2015 and 2017 respectively. During 2019, Korean scientists have joined this colaborative work.
At WG-SAM-2019, it was highlighted that some of the language in the table used to assess research plans in data-poor fisheries was ambiguous, in particular to delegates that do not have English as their first language. In this paper…
To manage a fishery effectively, it is crucial to understand the spatial stock structure of the target species, and how fishing mortality is distributed across the stock. This study investigates the genetic stock structure of Antarctic toothfish (Dissostichus mawsoni)…
Publication: 2019. Final Report, FRDC Project 2017/021. Australian Antarctic Division and the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation. Kingston, Australia. ISBN 978-1-876934-33-0. For this study, Antarctic toothfish samples were collected from CCAMLR Subareas 48.2, 48.4, 48.6, 88.1, 88.
