Functional Trait Variation Along Animal Invasion Pathways. Annual Review of Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics, 2023 (Ref: 17141)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Functional trait–based mediation of animal invasions is only now developing, yet it is already showing as much promise as the approach has for plant invasion biology. Here, we provide a theory-founded examination of functional trait–based ecology with respect to animal invasions…

Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Australia’s record-breaking 2019/20 Black Summer fire weather resulted from a combination of natural and anthropogenic climate factors, but the full range of natural variability in fire weather is unknown.

Collecting Quality Echosounder Data in Inclement Weather International Council for the Exploration of the Sea Cooperative Research Report, 2021 (Ref: 16898)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Echosounder data are widely collected and employed to address multitude scientific questions, from characterizing pelagic marine ecosystems, to investigating the behaviour and dynamics of marine organisms, and estimating the abundance and biomass of marine resources.

Integrating cetacean science into the conservation and management of Southern Ocean ecosystems – improving interactions between CCAMLR and IWC CCAMLR Scientific Committee Symposium, Virtual Meeting, 8 and 10 February 2022. Delegations of the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil and Germany, 2022 (Ref: 16906)
Category 3: Conference paper

As we learn more about the importance of cetaceans in the Antarctic, including their populations' recovery and needs as krill and fish predators, it is increasingly clear that cetacean science is vital for informing ecosystem-based management.

Guidelines for model-based estimation IWC Scientific Committee Meeting (SC69A), Bled, Slovenia, 24 April - 6 May 2023, 2023 (Ref: 16921)
Category 2: International meeting papers

The scope of this document is model-based estimation of abundance (and its uncertainty) from counts of cetaceans obtained using standard distance sampling line transect surveys (e.g., Buckland et al., 2015).

Report on fish by-catch in the exploratory toothfish fishery in Divisions 58.4.1 and 58.4.2 between 2014 and 2020 CCAMLR Thirty-ninth Meeting of the Scientific Committee, Online, 22 - 26 October 2020, Delegation of France and Australia (only AAD authors listed), 2020 (Ref: 16962)
Authors:
Category 2: International meeting papers

In this paper, we report on fish by-catch during exploratory fishing activities undertaken in Divisions 58.4.1 and 58.4.2 during the period 2014 to 2020. Fish by-catch comprised 12 species or groups of species. In 2019 and 2020, exploratory fishing occurred exclusively in research block 58.4.

Report on fish by-catch during Dissostichus mawsoni exploratory fishing in Divisions 58.4.1 and 58.4.2 (2016–2022) CCAMLR Working Group on Fish Stock Assessment, Hobart, Australia, 10 to 20 October 2022, 2022 (Ref: 16948)
Category 2: International meeting papers

In this paper, we report on fish bycatch during exploratory fishing activities undertaken in Divisions 58.4.1 and 58.4.2 during the period 2016 to 2022. Fish bycatch was composed of at least 14 species or species groups. In 2021 and 2022, exploratory fishing occurred in Division 58.4.2 only…

A condition assessment and handling guideline for skate (Rajiforms) by-catch in longline fisheries: Lessons from the Southern Indian Ocean CCAMLR Working Group on Fish Stock Assessment, Hobart, Australia, 10 to 20 October 2022, 2022 (Ref: 16947)
Category 2: International meeting papers

Elasmobranchs (sharks, skates and rays) are among the least productive fish species, which make their populations vulnerable to increased mortality. Although skates exhibit elevated vulnerability to fishing, they are commonly caught as incidental bycatch in demersal fisheries.

Diel patterns of fin whale 20 Hz acoustic presence in Eastern Antarctic waters Royal Society Open Science, 2023 (Ref: 16779)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

This study presents evidence of diel patterns in fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus) 20 Hz acoustic presence in Eastern Antarctic waters. Passive acoustic recordings were collected at four sites in Eastern Antarctica from 2013 to 2019.

Implementing the tissue residue approach for a key Antarctic species - Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba). Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Europe 21st Annual Meeting, Milan, Italy, 15-19 May 2011, 2011 (Ref: 14678)
Category 3: Poster

Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are well known to accumulate in polar food webs; yet there is little ecotoxicological data available for environmental risk assessment of POPs in these extreme ecosystems. The premise of the tissue residue approach (TRA)…

Parameter estimation in complex plankton models using the Boundary Eigenvalue Nudging – Genetic Algorithm (BENGA) Method MODSIM2015, Proceedings of the 21st International Congress on Modelling and Simulation: Gold Coast, Australia, 2015 (Ref: 15932)
Category 3: Conference paper

The analysis of trophically complex mathematical ecosystem models is typically carried out … using numerical techniques because it is considered that the number and nonlinear nature of the equations … involved makes the use of analytic techniques virtually impossible. In particular…

Gravity wave momentum fluxes above and around Macquarie Island using ACCESS modelling AMOS/ARCCSS national conference 2016, Melbourne, Australia, 8-11 February 2016, 2016 (Ref: 15794)
Category 3: Poster

Missing gravity wave drag near 60 degrees south has been proposed as the cause of the common cold bias in modelled southern polar stratospheric temperatures [McLandress et al. 2012]. Potential gravity wave momentum sources around those latitudes, such as jets…

Application of a Histopathology Fish Health Index as a Biomarker of Pollution Effect in East Antarctica 18th International Symposium on Pollutant Responses In Marine Organisms (PRIMO 18), Trondheim, Norway, 24-27 May 2015, 2015 (Ref: 15557)
Category 3: Verbal presentation

Current interpretation of histological alteration in fish as an indicator of contaminant impact is subjective. Generally severity of alteration is poorly described, and does not allow direct comparison between studies. A histological health index (HHI) modified from Bernet et al (1999)…

Modelling grouped survival times in toxicological studies using Generalized Additive Models Environmental and Ecological Statistics, 2015 (Ref: 15541)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

A method for combining a proportional-hazards survival time model with a bioassay model where the log-hazard function is modelled as a linear or smoothing spline function of log-concentration combined with a smoothing spline function of time is described.
