Amplitude enhancements in Antarctic MF radar echoes. Journal of Geophysical Research, 2000 (Ref: 9548)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Enhancements in the amplitude of returns from a Medium Frequency (MF)radar at Davis, Antarctica have been identified and their potential use as a measure of PMSE has been explored. A method for finding these enhancements has been applied to data spanning the period from mid-1995 to the end of 1997.

Precursors of geomagnetic storms observed by the muon detector network. Journal of Geophysical Research, 2000 (Ref: 9592)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

We report the first systematic survey of cosmic ray precursors of geomagnetic storms. Our data set comprises the 14 “major” geomagnetic storms (peak Kp >= 8–) identified by Gosling et al. (1990) together with 25 large storms (peak Kp >= 7–) observed from 1992 through 1998.

Deceleration of the high-latitude thermospheric wind by polar cap gravity waves Geophysical Research Letters, 2000 (Ref: 9547)
Authors:
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

This letter explores the hypothesis that gravity wave drag may account for the observed deceleration of the thermospheric anti-sunward wind near the nightside auroral oval, which at times has been seen to reduce to near zero in a horizontal distance of a few hundred kilometres.

Muon Observations Book, "Cosmic Rays and Earth", Space Sciences Series of ISSI, 2000 (Ref: 9584)
Authors:
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Muon observations are complementary to neutron monitor … observations but there are some important differences in the two techniques. Unlike neutron monitors, muon telescope systems use coincidence techniques to obtain directional information about the arriving particle.

The search for postglacial rebound near the Lambert Glacier, Antarctica Earth, Planets and Space, 2000 (Ref: 9225)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

A GPS network has been installed to monitor vertical crustal movement … in the Lambert Glacier region, East Antarctica. The program … commenced in January 1998 with a solar-powered GPS system installed at … Beaver Lake.
