Tide Gauges in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. The Southern Ocean Sea Level Network:, 2000 (Ref: 9186)
Category 3: Abstract

INTRODUCTION … The earliest Australian tide gauge to be operated in Antarctica was in 1912 when a gauge was installed at Cape Denison, George V Land, for 3 months during the Australasian Antarctic Expedition.

Short term variations in atmospheric tides over Davis - Antarctica Planetary Scale Mesopause Observing System Workshop 2000, Toronto, Canada, May 23-26, 2000, 2000 (Ref: 9227)
Authors:
Category 3: Poster

The amplitude and phase of the semidiurnal tide in the mesosphere and … lower thermosphere above Davis varies through the summer months. In particular, the phase can oscillate around a fixed value or, at some heights, shift by a whole cycle of local time.

IPS Radio and Space Services, currently operates three four-receiver Canadian Advanced Digital Ionosondes (CADIs), two at mid-latitudes at Canberra and Camden, and the remaining one at Casey station, Antarctica. The deployment of a fourth unit at Macquarie Island is scheduled for this summer.

Using Large Commercial Wind Turbines in Antarctica (Wind Power for Australian Antarctic Stations) Proceedings of the Ninth SCALOP Symposium on Antarctic Logistics and Operations, 2000 (Ref: 9677)
Category 3: Conference paper

Research and data collection over several years has allowed us to determine the best alternative energy option for Australian stations. This is to install a small number of large commercially available, minimally modified wind-turbines. They would be variable-speed, 280kW machines without gearboxes…
