Project aim
The Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) is closed and even likely forced by small scale mixing processes. We will elucidate mixing processes which determine the overturning circulation in the Southern Ocean. The results of this research will provide an invaluable data set to constrain both theoretical and numerical models of the Southern Ocean. This project will enable us to better understand the role of the Southern Ocean in the climate system through its control of the ocean overturning circulation and its impact on the carbon cycle. This project is an international collaboration between Australia, the UK and US.
