Project aim
Study of Space Weather is important to several modern industries importantly terrestrial and space communications, personnel in spacecraft and high flying aircraft, and electric power transmission. Central to this is understanding the effects of solar phenomena on near-Earth energetic particles (namely cosmic rays and particles accelerated near the Sun) to assist predicting when there are likely to be adverse effects. Analysis of a unique long term data record collected over the past 50+ years from a large range of geomagnetic latitudes from the Australian region, stretching from near the equator (Lae, Darwin) to the Antarctic (Wilkes-Casey, Mawson) will be conducted.
