Project information
Project aim
The cloud nucleation agent, dimethylsulfide, produced via microbial metabolism of dimethylsulfoxide, impacts significantly upon global climate. This reaction is catalysed by a molybdenum-containing enzyme from the metallo-oxotransferase superfamily. Molecular pictures of cold-adapted metallo-oxotransferases will provide insight into geomicrobiological cycling at Antarctica and may lead to considered applications of cold-adapted biotechnology.
