Project aim

Penguin populations are sensitive indicators of climate change and have fluctuated through time.

Coastal Antarctic lakes near penguin rookeries contain a record of the adjacent rookery activity, locked away in the lake sediments.

Studies of fossilised algae in sediments will reveal patterns between penguin population dynamics and climate change over millenia.
