Project aim
Recent global warming has become evident on Heard Island, where sea temperatures have risen by 1°C over the last 50 years, and glaciers are rapidly retreating. Rising temperatures affect photosynthesis and respiration, and ultimately growth, of plants. This project investigates the temperature response of key vascular plant species on the island. Results will help predict possible vegetation shifts caused by global climate change.
