A study of the impact of oceanic biological processes on the air-sea exchange of methyl bromide and other climatically important halocarbons: a collaborative proposal

Project aim

Investigators study how production and degradation of trace gases in the ocean affect ozone-depletion. These “natural” compounds make up about 25% of the ozone depletion attributed to halocarbons such as chlorofluorocarbons. Changes in oceanic emissions of these gases, including methyl bromide, could offset gains from mandated reductions in anthropogenic emissions.
