Project aim

This proposal is for a collaborative US-Australian marine geoscience expedition to Prydz Bay in 2000-2001 using the US icebreaker Nathaniel B Palmer. The Palmer is equipped with a sophisticated seafloor mapping sonar system that will enable detailed maps of the seafloor to be produced. The goals of the research are to improve our understanding of sedimentation in different glacial and oceanographic settings on the modern continental shelf so that we can predict past changes in the environment using older geological deposits.
