Global change, biodiversity and conservation in terrestrial and coastal ecosystems on Heard and McDonald Islands: freshwater faunal diversity

Project aim

Freshwater lakes and ponds are a significant feature of subantarctic islands. An extensive survey of Heard Island, which has not been undertaken before, will allow biogeographic comparisons to be made with other subantarctic islands, and provide a baseline against which future comparisons can be made as climate change proceeds.
