Project aim

This is an integrated program which examines the health status of the population of leopard seals in Prydz Bay. Leopard seals are one of the most easily studied top order predators within the Southern Ocean ecosystem. Top order predators are sensitive indicators of change. The program will test whether there are seasonal and/or annual fluctuations in their health status in response to climatic changes. In this way we will have the baseline data to determine whether any changes seen in the future are due to natural or unnatural environmental fluctuations.
