Comments

Despite a relatively rough night most people were up and about today, although many are still resting from the busy port call; packing and stowing labs and equipment for the marine science we will be doing.

Our intention had been to attempt to find and retrieve a Flux Pulse mooring (a combined meteorological mooring to measure heat flux in the southern ocean and the biogeochemical properties in the upper water column), however the weather and sea state will preclude us from retrieving it for another few days and so we have decided to continue on to our next objective, an acoustic whale mooring close to the ice edge.

We deployed the Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) as soon as we were clear of the coast and associated restricted areas, and this morning, the first of eight ARGO floats.

Planning meetings and a review of the draft refuel and resupply rosters from Casey station are underway.

Cheers

Andy and Mike
