Comments
Improved visibility yesterday afternoon allowed a move southwards into the ice. Within 10 nm ice state and blizz conditions with zero visibility forced a retreat back to the ice edge, otherwise the ship's options would have become somewhat limited. Pack is mostly first year around 1.4 m but it is under pressure and has lots of snow on top making it very tough, while poor visibility doesn't help route choices. Currently examining a potential alternate route to the west. More heavy snow is anticipated tonight. Taking things slowly.
