V345, Aurora Australis
Last updated:
Comments: Ship to shore resupply. HRD=3.0hr
V1.1, Kapitan Khlebnikov
Last updated:
Purpose of voyage: Continental summer deployment.
Leader: Dr Joe Johnson
Deputy Leader: Ms Leanne Millhouse
Comments: The Kapitan Khlebnikov will deliver personnel from Cape Town, South Africa to Mawson, Davis and Casey stations before returning to Hobart. The vessel's cargo capacity is extremely restricted, and as only light helicopters will be carried on the voyage, the opportunity to deliver cargo other than essential supplies and personal effects will be very limited. Program Managers intending to use this voyage were advised to ship cargo items to stations in the 01/02 season as a more practical alternative. Expeditioners travelling on V1.1 should note that the usual access to personal email services will not be available on the Kapitan Khlebnikov. The Logistics Officer coordinating this voyage is Sandra Potter. Voyage enquiries should be directed to Sandra at SAO or by phoning +61 3 62323273.
V1, Aurora Australis
Last updated:
Purpose of voyage: MI deployment and Marine Science
Leader: Dr Doug Thost
Comments: Scheduled to berth at Macquarie 3 wharf at 1100 on Monday 18. Visitors to the vessel are advised that there will be limited if any parking available on the wharf. Metered parking is available in Hunter Street.

The voyage will also undertake the deployment of personnel and equipment to the Prince Charles Mountains (PCMEGA program) through Davis, Sansom Island or Mawson, as required.
V2.1, Kapitan Khlebnikov
Last updated:

Comments: Tourist vessel available for possible use in transfer of personnel to, from and between stations. Personnel proposing to use this service should be prepared to meet the cost of berths and connecting air travel. Contact Sandra Potter SAO for berth cost information.

V3.3, FV Austral Leader
Last updated:
Purpose of voyage: Retrieve personnel and dogs
Comments: vessel collected dogs and 2 x pax on 26/12. Expected date in Lyttleton is 25/1/03.
V4.1, Akademik Shokalskiy
Last updated:
Purpose of voyage: Tourist vessel
Comments: Tourist vessel available for possible transfer of people to and from Macquarie Island. Expeditioners and supervisors considering this option need to consider the following points. Availability of berths will not be known until the end of July at the earliest. It can be expected that the cost will be near full fare (or equivalent nightly rate) as that for tourists. The operators have indicated that there is strong public interest in this voyage, possibly reducing the number of berths available to expeditioners.
V4, Aurora Australis
Last updated:
Purpose of voyage: Marine Science AMLR
Leader: Dr Steve Nicol
Deputy Leader: Ms Ruth Casper
Comments: The voyage will undertake a range of Marine Science activities off the Mawson Coast before moving north to complete further scientific activities. Enquiries regarding specific science programs to be undertaken on this voyage should be directed to Steve Nicol. Enquiries about other aspects of the voyage should be directed to SAO
V5, Polar Bird
Last updated:
Purpose of voyage: Mawson Resupply
Leader: Mr Richard Mulligan
Deputy Leader: Ms Jenny Whittaker
Comments: The voyage will retrieve summer and field personnel (including those involved in PCMEGA) from Davis Station, Sansom Island or Mawson as required. It will also undertake the Mawson resupply, deliver cargo to Davis Station and load cargo for return to Australia at both stations.
V5.1, Kapitan Khlebnikov
Last updated:
Purpose of voyage: Tourist vessel
Comments: Tourist vessel available for possible transfer of personnel from Macquarie Island to Hobart.
V7, Polar Bird
Last updated:
Purpose of voyage: Retrieve Casey summer personnel.
Leader: Mr Martin Betts
Deputy Leader: Mr Chris McGuire
Comments: The Polar Bird will retrieve summer personnel and subject to ice conditions at the time will also deliver and backload cargo. Because ice conditions may prevent the ship form reaching the station, transfer may be by helicopter. Arrangements should be made for all Casey cargo to be delivered to the station on the normal resupply voyage (Voyage 3). Voyage 7 should not to be regarded as a resupply voyage.
