Captain Garry Studd was awarded an Antarctic Medal for service to the Australian Antarctic Program in his capacity as a senior pilot. In particular, for his contribution to the past 12 years of aviation services to Antarctica.

Garry has made a significant and unique contribution to the Australian Antarctic Program in his capacity as a senior pilot for Skytraders Pty Ltd over 12 consecutive seasons. Garry has due regard to safety and does not take undue risks. His outstanding piloting skills in difficult weather conditions, has allowed expeditions to continue where, in other instances, they would not have been able to.

Garry has been at the forefront of Australian Antarctic Division aviation operations over the past 12 years. He has provided a coaching and mentoring role to junior pilots. This was highlighted in the recent 10 year anniversary of aviation travel to Antarctica.
