Gravity-derived Antarctic bathymetry using the Tomofast-x open-source code: a case study of Vincennes Bay The Cryosphere, 2025 (Ref: 17370)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Vincennes Bay is a region of East Antarctica vulnerable to sub-ice shelf basal melting from warm ocean water intrusions. The sub-ice shelf bathymetry in this region is largely unknown, despite its importance for ocean dynamics within ice shelf cavities and associated sub-ice shelf basal melting.

Gross Primary Production of Antarctic Landfast Sea Ice: A Model Based Estimate. Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 2024 (Ref: 17154)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Much of the Antarctic coast is covered by seasonal landfast sea ice (fast ice), which serves as an … important habitat for ice algae. Fast?ice algae provide a key early season food source for pelagic and benthic … food webs, and contribute to biogeochemical cycling in Antarctic coastal ecosystems.

Stranding of a satellite-tagged southern right whale off southwest Australia Journal of Cetacean Research and Management Special Issue (Cetacean Tagging: Advances and Insights), 2025 (Ref: 17222)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

A southern right whale (Eubalaena australis) was found dead, stranded on a remote rock platform at Torndirrup, Western Australia, on 20 September 2022.

Estimating relative abundance of whales from historical Antarctic whaling records. Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2014 (Ref: 15167)
Authors:
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Catch per unit effort (CPUE) is often the only data available from historical fisheries for inferring distribution and abundance of exploited populations. CPUE underestimates variations in relative abundance when gross effort data are only measured in total operating days.

Holocene westerly wind and ecosystem changes on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island. 12th International Paleolimnology Symposium, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland 20-24 August 2012, 2012 (Ref: 14852)
Category 3: Verbal presentation

The mid- to high-latitudes of the Southern Hemisphere are dominated by the westerly winds. These are important because changes in their strength determine precipitation and temperature regimes. However, little is known about their past strength, or spatial and temporal variability.

Holocene climate and ecosystem variability on sub-Antarctic Campbell, Macquarie and Marion Islands. International Quaternary Association, University of Bern, Switzerland 21-27 July 2011, 2011 (Ref: 14855)
Category 3: Poster

The sub-Antarctic region between 45-60°S is primarily ocean. However, there are a few small isolated islands, most of which are currently facing the combined pressures of climate change and introduced species.

Holocene climate and ecosystem variability on sub-Antarctic Campbell, Macquarie and Marion Islands. SCAR Biology-EBA Workshop: Antarctic biodiversity: status and trends, University of Liège, Belgium, 31 May 2011, 2011 (Ref: 14854)
Category 3: Poster

The sub-Antarctic region between 45-60 °S is primarily ocean. However, there are a few small isolated islands, most of which are currently facing the combined pressures of climate change and introduced species.

12,000 years of westerly wind and ecosystem changes on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island. Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research Open Science Meeting, University of Portland, Portland, USA, 15-19 July 2012, 2012 (Ref: 14853)
Category 3: Poster

Sub-Antarctic islands are the only landmasses between Antarctica and South America, Africa and Australia where terrestrial climate and ecosystem records are available, making them crucial locations for linking southern mid and high latitude regions. However…

Ocean circulation and ice-ocean interaction beneath the Amery Ice Shelf, Antarctica. Journal of Geophysical Research, 2001 (Ref: 10313)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Simulations of the ocean dynamics in the cavity under the Amery Ice Shelf, Antarctica, were carried out using a three-dimensional numerical ocean model. Two different boundary conditions were used to describe the open ocean barotropic exchange at the ice front.

Production of exopolysaccharides by Antarctic marine bacterial isolates Journal of Applied Microbiology, 2004 (Ref: 13517)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

Aims: This study was undertaken to examine and characterize Antarctic marine bacterial isolates and the … exopolysaccharides (EPS) they produce in laboratory culture. Methods and Results:

Food requirements of breeding king penguins at Heard Island and potential overlap with commercial fisheries Polar Biology, 1998 (Ref: 9484)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

The diet composition of King penguins Aptenodytes patagonicus at Heard Island (53°05S; 73°30E) was determined from stomach contents of 98 adults captured as they returned to the island throughout 1992. During the two growth seasons…

Accumulation distribution in the IAGP area, Antarctica: 90 degrees E - 150 degrees E. Annals of Glaciology, 1982 (Ref: 2077)
Category 1: Peer-reviewed literature

The distribution of mean net accumulation rate over a large sector (90°E to 150°E) of the IAGP (International Glaciological Project) area is presented in map form. The basic data have been compiled from direct measurements of accumulation at stake networks…
