A Rayleigh lidar was operated at Kingston, Tasmania on 22 nights between March 1997 and April 1999. During this interval, profiles of scattering ratio obtained from the lidar data indicate that the stratospheric aerosol layer extended up to a maximum altitude of about 34km.
