Summary
From September 01 to October 31, 2009, the first global NDMC measurement campaign has been conducted. Several of the globally distributed NDMC stations provided rotational temperature data derived from ground-based measurements of the OH and O2 emissions, which have their origin in the mesopause region (80-100km). This campaign dataset provides an excellent opportunity for intercomparison between the contributing stations whereby satellite observations from instruments such as SABER on TIMED or SCIAMACHY on ENVISAT are used as a "transfer standard" between the ground based observations. Data for the intercomparison are chosen following equal miss time and miss distance criteria for every instrument location. Airglow-equivalent temperatures are derived from the satellite temperature profiles by applying an appropriate weighting function. The differences at each location between satellite and ground based temperatures and a preliminary overall uncertainty based on the available data for the ground-based network is presented.
